Abdullah Yusuf Ali

Abdullah Yusuf Ali ( Urdu عبداللہ یوسف علی, born April 14, 1872 in Bombay , British India ; died December 10, 1953 in London ) was a British-Indian scholar of Islam, politician, historian and philosopher who translated the Koran into English . He studied at Bombay University , St. John's College , Cambridge, and Lincoln's Inn , and later at various European universities, including the University of Leeds . He mastered the Arabic and English languages.

His translation of the Koran (1st edition 1934) in Lahore , Sheikh Muhammad Ashraf. Publishers with Commentary is one of the most famous and widely used in the English-speaking world. He was also a trustee of the East London Mosque Fund .
