Abell 36 is a planetary nebula , 780 light years away in the constellation Virgo , discovered by George Ogden Abell . Abell discovered the planetary nebula on photographic plates of the 48-inch Schmidt telescope taken as part of the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey and reported on it in 1955. Later it was included in the Abell Catalog of Planetary Nebulae , the 36th entry of which it forms.
