Abgott is an English black metal band, the main member of which is originally from Italy. The band plays a very technical, progressive style.

history

The band was founded in 1997 in Cassino , Italy by Agamoth, who was active in the Italian underground with a first line-up and the demo tape Celtic Metal Battle . Originally intended as a solo project, the band eventually developed into his main project. The self-titled debut album was released in 2000. The band then toured Italy and, according to their own statements, was able to sell 1860 copies of the album. There were also good reviews in the Italian metal press.

In 2002 Agamoth moved to London to study music at Thames Valley University . There he continued Abgott with constantly changing line-ups. For a time Robin “Graves” Eaglestone (ex- Cradle of Filth ) was also an idol.

Still in Italy in 2001, Agamoth produced the second album Fizala with a new line-up , but it was not released until 2003 in Europe via Helvete Records (then Conquer Records) and in North America via Oracle (the label of Juan Garcia from ( Agent Steel )) and through concerts in Supporting act was promoted by Napalm Death , Destruction , Hatesphere and Ancient Rites . This was followed by further tours and festival appearances in the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Italy and Poland with Enslaved , Ancient , Napalm Death, Marduk and Destruction, as well as the Demigod Tour 2005 as a support act for Behemoth .

In 2006 Abgott played a New Year's gig with Hypocrisy and recorded the album Artefact of Madness in the Alpha and Omega studios , which was produced by Alex Azzali (Ancient, Mortuary Drape , Cataract ). After a contract with Helvete & Hate Management, the album was released in the UK via Plastic Head / Code7.

In 2007 a video clip for the song Thy Infernal Fields was filmed at 3 Mills Studios in London , directed by Nathan Theys . After an exclusive appearance at the London club Underworld, Abgott played an extremely successful UK tour in support of the Finnish band Turisas , as well as a short headlining tour in Italy. The English metal press gave the band top marks for their live performances.

The last album to date, Godfather in Black , was released in 2009 .

style

Agamoth describe their style of his band as "unconventional" ( "unconventional" ) Black Metal, which at the beginning of Mayhem , Darkthrone and Immortal was affected. With the later works he moved away from these sources of inspiration and tried to adopt a technically demanding, progressive and very fast game. The texts deal with occult , satanic topics. Some of the texts also refer to the Necronomicon . So Fizala is backwards for Al-Azif , the title of the book's alleged Arabic original.
