Abid Ali Jaferbhai

Abid Ali Jaferbhai (* 1899 or 1900 in Kazmain , Iraq ; † 26. June 1973 ) one was Indian politicians of the Indian National Congress (INC) and union functionary , among other things, 1952-1970 member of the Rajya Sabha and from 1952 to 1962 Vice -Minister of Labor.

Life

Jaferbhai has been involved in the Indian National Congress since the late 1920s and was, among other things, Secretary General of the Congress Party in the then presidency of Bombay between 1929 and 1934 . In addition, he was active as a union official for the trade union federation INTUC ( Indian National Trade Union Congress ) . In 1946, as chairman of the union of bank employees and as president of the dockworkers union, he was advisor to the delegate for employees at the Conference of the International Labor Organization (ILO).

After India gained independence from the United Kingdom on August 15, 1947, he became a member of the Legislative Council of the then state of Bombay for the Indian National Congress (INC) and was a member of this until 1952. In 1948, as chairman of INTUC in the state of Bombay, he took part in another ILO conference as an advisor to the employee representatives.

On April 3, 1952, he became a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament , and was a member until April 2, 1970, where he last represented the state of Maharashtra .

During this time Jaferbhai became Vice Minister for Labor in 1952 and held this office for ten years until 1962. He was thus one of the closest associates of Labor Minister Jagjivan Ram and Gulzarilal Nanda , who was Minister of Labor, Employment and Minister from 1957 to 1962 Planning in the third government of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was. During this time he took part in other ILO conferences as a government representative in 1953 and 1961.

Afterwards he was vice-president of INTUC for a time and during this period he took part in the other annual ILO conferences in 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 and 1969 as an employee representative. In 1965 he was also a member of the Executive Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and a member of the Board of Directors of the International Labor Office. He was also in 1967 chairman of the textile workers' union (Rashtriya Mill Mazdoor Sangh) .

His marriage to Zarinabai had three sons and a daughter.
