Abitur in Hamburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Abitur in Hamburg is awarded at the end of the two-year course. At the grammar school this includes grades 11 and 12, at the district schools grades 12 and 13.

Study level

The study level comprises two school years with two semesters (half-years) in each school year. Here the schools provide profile areas from which the students can choose one. The profile areas have either a linguistic, scientific-technical, social, artistic or sporting focus and always consist of the three core subjects German, math and a foreign language as well as one or two profile-defining subjects and two or three profile-related subjects. In addition, a seminar is set up in almost every profile that must be attended.

Occupancy requirement

In addition to the three core subjects and the seminar, if this has been set up in the selected profile, the following subjects must be attended in the study level:

  • Art, music or theater
  • History, Geography or Politics / Society / Economics (PGW)
  • a science
  • Sports

Abitur exams

Written exams

The Abitur exams take place after the fourth semester of the course. Three subjects are examined in writing. The written Abitur exams for the subjects at the higher level take five hours, while the subjects at the basic level take four hours. In the study level you take three core subjects, usually two at an advanced level and one at a basic level. At least one of the advanced core subjects and the profile-giving subject must be examined in writing.

Oral exams

The fourth exam is usually an oral exam, but it can also be replaced by a presentation. You also have the option of being examined voluntarily in a 5th examination in the form of a special learning achievement.

Abitur grade

The Abitur grade is made up of the achievements achieved during the course and in the Abitur exams.

Block I - Results from the study level

At least 32 semester results must be submitted here. In addition, any number of additional results, up to a maximum of 40 semester results, can be submitted. At least 200 of a maximum of 600 possible points must be achieved in this block in order to pass the Abitur.

Block II - Results from the Abitur examination

All results of the Abitur examination are included in the Abitur grade and are scored four times, provided that 5 Abitur exams have been passed. If the 5th examination in the form of the special learning achievement has not been taken, the four results are each scored five times. At least 100 of a maximum of 300 possible points must be achieved in the Abitur exams to pass.

The total number of points is obtained by adding both blocks and converting this into the Abitur grade using the point table.
