The way to graduation

The course system (until July 31, 2008)

The "State Ordinance on the Design of the Upper Level of High Schools and Comprehensive Schools in Schleswig-Holstein" of December 21, 1998 and the "State Ordinance on the Abitur examination for the upper level of the Gymnasium" of December 14, 1999 expired on July 31, 2008.

The upper level profile (from August 1, 2008)

The previous upper level with course system was replaced by the so-called profile upper level in the 2008/09 school year . The new examination procedure applies to "grammar schools and community schools with upper level grammar schools in Schleswig-Holstein". The upper profile level starts at the grammar school from the tenth grade, in community schools from the eleventh grade. First there is a one-year introductory phase with the choice of a profile, which is followed by the two-year qualification phase . You can choose from a pool of five profiles ("scientific, linguistic, social, aesthetic and athletic"). The Abitur examination follows the qualification phase .

In the upper level, the attendance of so-called core subjects is compulsory for a “broader general education” . These are German, mathematics and a foreign language.

Central high school diploma

Since the 2007/08 school year, central work has been written in the advanced courses in German, English, French, Spanish, Danish, Latin, Greek, mathematics, biology, physics and chemistry at grammar schools and comprehensive schools .

Since the 2010/11 school year, the Abitur exams at the grammar schools and comprehensive schools in Schleswig-Holstein have been given "central tasks for the written exams of the core subjects German, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Danish, Latin, Greek and mathematics".

The education ministers of the states "Bavaria, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein" have agreed to "introduce common tasks or parts of tasks for the Abitur" from the 2013/2014 school year.

Task creation

"In the rotation process, student councils" of the grammar schools and comprehensive schools are "commissioned to draft task proposals with expectations and instructions for the evaluation of the examination papers".

Specialized commissions of the Ministry of Education put together "from this pool of tasks the Abitur examination tasks for the regular examination dates and the follow-up dates".

Task distribution

The tasks are made available centrally by e-mail in the protected state network and the schools independently print out the day before.

Results

Cumulative state results from the last few years have been published on the homepage of the Schleswig-Holstein education portal since 2009.
