Abraham Lincoln Keister

Abraham Lincoln Keister (born September 10, 1852 in Upper Tyrone , Fayette County , Pennsylvania , †  May 26, 1917 in Scottdale , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1917 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Abraham Keister attended the public schools in his home country. He then studied until 1874 at Otterbein University in Westerville ( Ohio ). After completing a law degree and being admitted to the bar in 1878, he began to work in this profession in Columbus . In 1882 he returned to Fayette County, Pennsylvania. There he worked, among other things, in the manufacture of coke. In 1889 he founded the First National Bank of Scottdale , of which he was president for 28 years. In 1901 he also founded the Scottdale Savings & Trust Cowith which he remained connected until his death. Keister also served on the Scottdale School Board for over 20 years. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1912 congressional election , Keister was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 22nd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Curtis Hussey Gregg on March 4, 1913 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1917 . In 1913 the 16th and 17th amendments were ratified. In 1916 Keister was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, he continued his previous activities. He died on May 26, 1917 in Scottdale, where he was also buried.
