John Haden Wilson

John Haden Wilson (born August 20, 1867 in Nashville , Tennessee , †  January 28, 1946 in Butler , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1921 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Life

In the year of his birth, John Wilson and his parents came to Harmony in Butler County , Pennsylvania. He attended public schools in his new home and then several colleges in Pennsylvania. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1893, he began working in this profession in Butler in 1896. In the meantime he taught as a teacher. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard for three years. The social unrest, known as Homestead Riots , in which the National Guard was also deployed, fell during this period . Between 1906 and 1934, except for his years as a member of Congress, Wilson was the legal representative of the town of Butler. Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party . In 1916, 1932, 1936 and 1940 he took part as a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions , at which Woodrow Wilson and later Franklin D. Roosevelt were nominated as presidential candidates.

Following the death of MP Edward Everett Robbins , who was re-elected in 1918 but passed away on January 25, 1919, Wilson was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the due by-election for the 22nd Pennsylvania seat , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1919. Since he was not confirmed in 1920, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1921 . During this time the 18th and 19th amendments were ratified. It was about the ban on alcohol trafficking and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, John Wilson initially practiced as a lawyer again. Between 1933 and 1943 he served as a judge in Butler County. He died on January 28, 1946 in Butler, where he was also buried.
