Between 1897 and 1899 and again from 1917 to 1919 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edward Robbins attended the public schools of his home country and then the Indiana Normal School and the Eldersridge Academy . In 1881 he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania. After a subsequent law degree at Columbia College in New York City and his admission to the bar in 1884, he began to work in this profession in Greensburg . There he also entered the banking industry and various businesses related to coal mining. At the same time, Robbins embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . In 1885 he was district chairman of this party in his home country. Between 1888 and 1892 he was a member of the Pennsylvania Senate . He also became a member of his state's National Guard.

In the congressional election of 1896 Robbins was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 21st  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Daniel Brodhead Heiner on March 4, 1897 . Since he renounced another candidacy in 1898, he was initially only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1897 . This was marked by the events of the Spanish-American War of 1898 , in which Robbins participated as a major of the volunteers despite his membership in Congress.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Robbins practiced law again. In the elections of 1916 he was re-elected to Congress in the 22nd district of his state, where he replaced Abraham Lincoln Keister on March 4, 1917 . He was able to exercise this mandate until his death on January 25, 1919. At this point in time, he had already been re-elected for the next legislative period. His second time as a congressman was overshadowed by the events of World War I.
