Abraham de Verwer
Abraham de Verwer called van Burghstrate (* between 1585 and 1600 probably in Haarlem; † 1650 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch marine painter .
Life
He can be traced back to Amsterdam as a painter from 1617 . His teacher is not known, but some similarities suggest that he was a student of Hendrick Cornelisz. Vroom was or was influenced by him. In 1637 and 1639 he worked in Paris . From 1641 he stayed again in Amsterdam, where he probably stayed until his death in 1650. In addition to painting, he also worked as an engineer . In addition to the usual naval pictures, he also liked to paint fantasy maritime battles.
His son Justus de Verwer also worked as a marine painter.
