geography

The brook unites a number of other brooks. It begins with the confluence of Left Prong Anthony Creek and Anthony Creek in one of the valleys east of Cades Cove, where Maynard Creek (S, l) also joins. He steps at the northeast end of the cove on the valley floor and takes up the Green Branch there. In its course through the cove to the west flow to it: Laurel Creek (N, r), Crooked Arm Branch (N, r), Harrison Branch (N, r), Cooper Branch (S, l), Maple Branch (S, l), McCaulley Branch (S, l), Cades Branch (S, l), Whistling Branch (S, l), Feezell Branch (O, r), Tater Branch (N, r). At the exit of the cove, it takes Mill Creek from the south, before it flows in wild loops through the wooded mountain gorges in a general course to the west. Other tributaries are: More Licker Branch (S, l), Arbutus Branch (O, r), Law Branch (W, l), Stony Branch (N, r). Near the Wilson Branch (N, r) are the Abrams Falls ( ). Also: Spruce Double Branch (S, l), Kreider Branch (N, r), Oak Flats Branch (N, r), McCully Branch / Rabbit Creek (S, l), Mill Branch (N, r), Buckshank Branch ( N, r), Kingfisher Creek (N, r). From the Abrams Creek Campground , the river turns more strongly to the south. There he still flows Pardon Branch (O, l), Mill Branch (O, l), Bell Branch (N, r), Shootly Branch (S, l), Huckleberry Branch (O, l), Mill Creek (W, r ) as long as it runs along the Sawmill Ridge that separates it from Happy Valley . The Panther Creek still flows to it before it flows into the Little Tennessee River at Abrams Creek Shoal in the Chilhowee Lake .

In the river you can swim in places and it is a good trout stream. However, the river was deliberately poisoned in 1957 in order to eliminate “food competitors” for the rainbow trout . The populations of the original species have not recovered to this day.
