Aivaras Abromavičius ( Ukrainian Айварас Абромавічус ; born January 21, 1976 in Vilnius , Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic ) is a Lithuanian financial manager and Ukrainian politician . He was Minister of Economy of Ukraine from December 2014 to February 2016.

Life

In 1988 he won the Soviet Union championship in basketball with the Lithuanian national youth team . He studied at the International Business Concordia International University in Estonia . He received his bachelor's degree from Concordia University Wisconsin . He was the first non- Estonian to join the Estonian Hansabank , for which he went to Sweden in 1999 . Since December 2002 he has been a partner in the Stockholm investment company East Capital , which specializes in investments in Eastern Europe , and since 2005 in its Moscow office. On December 2, 2014, he accepted Ukrainian citizenship and was appointed Minister of Economic Development and Trade in the Yatsenyuk II cabinet by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko . On February 3, 2016, he submitted his resignation as minister, among other things because he was exposed to increasing pressure from Ihor Kononenko and because of his view of the government's sluggish fight against corruption.

Abromavičius is married. His wife Ekaterina comes from Donetsk . You have three children.
