The FC Accrington (officially: Accrington Football Club ) - also known as The 'Owd Reds - was an English football club based in Accrington , now part of the county Hyndburn in the county of Lancashire is. It was created in 1876 after meeting in a public pub and played in Moorhead Park from then on .

After a dispute with the English football association " Football Association " over the payment of money to a player, the club was excluded from association games in 1883 and was part of a revolt a year later with the aim of establishing professional football. On April 17, 1888, he was one of twelve founding members of the " Football League " and finished the first season with six wins, eight draws and eight defeats in seventh place. Accrington FC was the first opponent in a league game for Blackburn Rovers and Everton FC .

The best season completed the Accrington FC in the season 1889/90, when the club finished the season in sixth place. After that, the club could no longer assert itself in the English championship and finished the season 1892/93 on the penultimate position. The 0-1 defeat by Sheffield United in a "test match", as a play-off game was called in the early days , at the Tent Bridge finally sealed relegation from the elite league. However, instead of playing in the second-rate Second Division in the future , Accrington FC withdrew completely from the Football League.

Only a short time later, the club's financial problems increased, which should ultimately lead to the quick end. Accrington FC continued to play in the Lancashire Combination until 1896, but then withdrew after a 12-0 defeat on January 14 against Darwen FC in the Lancashire Senior Cup . Until the beginning of the 1921/22 season, no other team from Accrington should follow in the Football League, until the Accrington Stanley Football Club  - which had originally been a local rival of Accrington FC - joined the Football League from the Lancashire Combination.

The club Accrington Stanley, which was originally founded as Stanley Villa , played from 1921 to 1962 in the divisions of the Football League . Following a bankruptcy in 1964, Stanley "adopted" the Accrington Football Club name before the club finally ceased playing in January 1966. In 1968 another association was founded under the name Accrington Stanley .
