Achatius von Hohenfeld

Achatius Freiherr von Hohenfeld (* 1610 at Aistersheim Castle (Upper Austria); † December 3, 1672 in Camberg ) was Nassau-Diezer military and civil servant, electoral Trier Oberamtmann in the Camberg office and Reichspfennigmeister .

Achatius von Hohenfeld was the son of Ludwig Freiherr von Hohenfeld (1576–1644) and his wife Klara born von Neideck. From 1626 he lived in Esslingen , where his father had fled as a religious refugee. Achatius von Hohenfeld was also initially Lutheran, but converted to the Roman Catholic faith in 1669. He studied in Tübingen.

Since 1630 he was in Leeuwarden in the service of Count Ernst Casimir von Nassau-Dietz . After his death he was from 1633 court master of his widow Sophie Hedwig in Diez . From 1643 he was lieutenant colonel and governor of all Nassauisch-Dietz lands. There he acquired rich property and led a powerful regiment.

In 1646 he married Anna-Ursula, born Freiin von Metternich-Winneburg († 1675 in Camberg). The bride was Catholic. Achatius von Hohenfeld became an imperial and Bavarian lieutenant colonel. From 1653 he was also the Kurtrierscher Chamber President in Camberg. In 1658 he became Reichspfennigmeister. In 1659 he was enfeoffed with the Hof zu Hausen and the Riedeselschen Hof, the former castle of Camberg. He lived there until his adoption in 1664. Around 1660 he commissioned the construction of the Hohenfeld Chapel in Camberg.

Franz Carl Friedrich von Hohenfeld (1696–1757), dean of the cathedral in Worms and governor of the prince-bishop, was his grandson.
