Achille Liénart
Achille Cardinal Liénart (born February 7, 1884 in Lille , France , † February 15, 1973 there ) was Bishop of Lille .
Life
Achille Liénart studied in Lille, Paris and Rome the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology . He received on 29 June 1907, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then worked as a lecturer at the Seminary of Cambrai . From 1910 to 1914 he taught at the seminary of Lille. Achille Liénart took part in the First World War as a military chaplain of the French army and then worked as a pastor in various parishes in the diocese of Lille .
Pope Pius XI appointed him bishop of Lille on October 6, 1928, two years later he accepted him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Sisto in the college of cardinals . Achille Cardinal Liénart represented the Pope at numerous festivities as the papal legate and headed the French Bishops' Conference for many years . He attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . He resigned the leadership of the diocese of Lille in 1968 for reasons of age. Achille Cardinal Liénart died on February 15, 1973 in Lille and was buried in the Notre-Dame de la Treille cathedral, the completion of which he had played a key role.
Cardinal Liénart was a participant in the conclaves of 1939 , 1958 , and 1963 and was a council father in all sessions of Vatican II .
