Achim ( ) is the German short form of the Hebrew name Joachim , which means " raised by YHWH " or "raised by YHWH". In the form of Jojakim , it is a biblical king name.
In the Gospel according to Matthew (Mt 1.14) an Achim is listed in the list of Jesus' ancestors as the son of a Zadok and father of an Eliud , but only Joachim appears in the calendar of saints and was thus able to act as the patron saint in a Christian society . Where the first syllable was stressed by Joachim , the name Jochen developed from it , where the second syllable was stressed, the first syllable was omitted, as in the analogous case of the first name Johannes , which became Hannes or Hans .
