Achim Werres

Achim Werres (* 1967 ) is a Brigadier General in the Bundeswehr and has been Head of SE I ( Military Intelligence ) in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) since July 2019 .

Military career

Werres joined the Bundeswehr and was trained as an officer. After his first assignments, he completed his training as an officer in the general staff service at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . From mid-2006 to July 2008 Werres led the Electronic Warfare Battalion 922 in Donauwörth . After this assignment, he moved to the command of the Bundeswehr in Schwielowsee near Potsdam . In July 2013 Werres was appointed lieutenant colonel i. G. in Section SE I 3 (early crisis detection, risk and threat assessment worldwide) in the BMVg. In February 2017 at the latest, he was head of this unit.

As head of subdivision SE 1, Werres has overall responsibility for the Bundeswehr's military intelligence. Internationally, this post is the German Defense Intelligence Director. In his function as Head of Department SE I, Werres is also Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Master's degree in Intelligence and Security Studies , which is attended by soldiers, especially from the military intelligence sector.
