The eight and a half is a non-commercial Saarbrücken cinema that is located in the Nauwieser Viertel . The association for the promotion of media work is responsible for it. It is located in the Kultur- und Werkhof Nauwieser 19 and has received several awards, most recently in 2008 with the program award of the DEFA Foundation and in 2013 with the 1st prize of the Kinematheksverbund in the category "Community and social engagement on site". The cinema is also the venue for various film festivals , including the Max Ophüls Preis film festival .

history

In the 1980s, the cinema in the old fire station existed in a former fire station , the forerunner of today's cinema eight and a half. When at the end of the 1980s the Nauwieser 19 eV association bought a building from 1906, renovated it and set up a culture and workshop there, the cinema moved in and renamed itself after the film of the same name by Federico Fellini eight and a half . This film was also shown on the occasion of the official opening on April 20, 1990.
