Acid was a Belgian speed and thrash metal band from Bruges that was formed in 1980 and split up around 1985.

history

The band was formed in 1980 by guitarist Demon, singer Kate de Lombaert, and bassist T-Bone after they broke up with their previous band, Precious Page. A short time later, Anvill joined the group as drummer. After Dizzy Lizzy joined the band as the second guitarist, the band recorded a single that had an edition of 2000 copies. The sound carrier was released in July 1982 under the name Hell on Wheels via Roadrunner Records . The first self-titled album followed in January 1983. In the same year, the second album Maniac followed, followed by the third album Engine Beast in 1985 . The band broke up a little later. In their career the band had played in Belgium as well as in the Netherlands and France and performed with groups such as Black Sabbath , Manowar , Loudness , Venom , Picture , Bodine and Motörhead .

style

According to Eduardo Rivadavia of Allmusic , the band initially dedicated themselves to heavy metal , before turning to thrash metal a short time later, which was influenced by Venom and Raven . Rivadavia assigned the self-titled debut album to Speed Metal, whereby the songs would deal with Satanism , but this was not meant seriously.

According to Martin Popoff in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 2: The Eighties , the double bass on the Acid album is reminiscent of Motörhead, making the band like a version of girl school getting kicked in the ass. On Maniac , the band dedicates itself to classic speed metal, with the use of fast double bass again being characteristic.

According to thethrashmetalguide.com , the band is a pioneer in speed and thrash metal, as they were the first band alongside Anvil to show the aggressive side of this scene. In addition to Girlschool, she was one of the first bands to have a singer.
