The Creeping Snapdragon ( Misopates orontium , Syn. : Antirrhinum orontium ) is a plant that the family of plantain plants belongs (Plantaginaceae).
description
The snapdragon is an annual plant. It reaches heights of 8 to 50 centimeters. The plant grows upright and is somewhat branched, in the lower part glabrous to weakly hairy, in the upper part glandular. The leaves are linear to ovate-elliptical, 2–5 cm long and 2–7 mm wide and have a short stalk. They are opposite in the lower part, alternate upward. The flowers are in loose terminal clusters. They are only short stalked, their stems are only up to 4 mm long at the time of fruiting. The calyx is 10-17 mm long, the calyx lobes are linear, the longest about 1.5 times as long as the shortest. The crown of the snapdragon is pink with dark veins. It is 10–15 mm long, as long or slightly shorter than the calyx. The fruit capsule is 8-10 mm long, ovate and hairy with glands.
The chromosome number of the species is 2n = 16.
ecology
Bees are responsible for pollination. The seed is spread by the wind.
Occurrence
The snapdragon is a therophyte . It avoids lime and prefers sandy to loamy fields and also grows on vineyards and fallow land. It occurs in Europe , the Mediterranean region and western Asia. In Germany it is considered an archaeophyte . It is a character species of the Setario-Stachyetum-arvensis in Central Europe.

The snapdragon is classified as endangered in Germany.

Or as to the arable snapdragons were partly only regionally, including the names monkey skull ( Silesia ), brackish main , Dorant (Silesia, Thuringia ), dog's head (Thuringia), Dog Skull (Thuringia), calf nose (Silesia), Small snapdragon , nose herb ( Switzerland ), Orant ( Hesse ), starch herb , Teufelsband (Silesia, Middle High German ) and Todtenköpfel (Silesia) in use. Other names are field snapdragon , large orant and cat's mouth .
