Acrochaene punctata is a plant type from the family of the orchid (Orchidaceae) and from the genus Acrochaene . It grows as an epiphyte and is found in northeast India, Myanmar and Thailand. According to R. Govaerts it is a synonym of Bulbophyllum kingii Hook.f.
description
Acrochaene punctata forms oval, two to three centimeters large pseudobulbs on a creeping rhizome loosely covered by lower leaves . At the tip of the pseudobulbs there is a leathery leaf . The leaves are elongated, the leaf blade is twelve to 15 centimeters long and three to five centimeters wide, and there is also an eight to ten centimeter long petiole.
The racemose inflorescence appears laterally from the base of the pseudobulbs, it does not rise above the leaves. At the base it is surrounded by a wide leaf sheath, the bracts soon fall off. The inflorescence is densely covered with flowers , these are about 2.5 centimeters in size, olive green and dotted with red. The middle sepal is oval, the lateral ones are triangular and do not start at the ovary , but at the extension of the column (column base). The lateral petals are smaller than the outer petals, they are ciliate on the edge. The lip is articulated to the base of the column, it is three-lobed, the side lobes are upright. The column is short and ends bluntly. The stamen is single-chambered with two pollinia , these are rounded and each has a stalk.
distribution
Acrochaene punctata occurs in northeast India (Sikkim, Darjeeling), Bhutan, Myanmar and Thailand. It grows at altitudes around 1300 meters in relatively cool conditions.
