Adak is a village in the Aleutian Islands in western Alaska and the westernmost community in the United States . It is located on Kuluk Bay on Adak Island , about 2,100 km southwest of Anchorage .
The settlement covers 329.8 km² and is inhabited by 326 people. The first inhabitants of Adak were the Unangan . The formerly more populated island was explored by Russian fur hunters at the beginning of the 19th century.
Strong earthquakes occurred in 1957, 1964 and 1977.
