Adalgisa Ximenes

Adalgisa Maria Soares Ximenes (born March 13, 1968 in Dili , Portuguese Timor ) is a diplomat and politician from East Timor . She is a member of FRETILIN .

Life

Ximenes finished school in Viqueque in 1989 . In 1996 she completed a bachelor's degree in psychology at the University of Brawijaya in Malang, Indonesia . This was followed by studying to become a teacher until 2008 at the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e in Dili.

From 1997 to 1999, Ximenes was Administrator for CARE International , then until 2002 Project Officer of LAFAEK Magazine at CARE International. In the elections for the East Timorese Constituent Assembly in 2001 , Ximenes was elected MP for FRETILIN. In 2002, with the restoration of the country's independence, the assembly became the national parliament of East Timor . Ximenes was President of the Permanent Commission on Health and Labor from 2002 to 2007 and Secretary to Women Parliamentarians from 2005 to 2007. In 2009 she took part in research on the UNDP Parliament Project to support women in Parliament. From 2009 to 2010, Ximenes was UNICEF commissioner for children's rights in East Timor.

On February 16, 2016, Ximenes was appointed East Timor’s Ambassador to South Korea . She succeeds Hernâni Coelho , who was sworn in as Foreign Minister in 2015.
