Adam Antonavich Babareka ( Belarusian Адам Антонавіч Бабарэка , scientific transliteration Adam Antonavič Babarėka; born October 14, 1899 in Sloboda-Kučinka ; † October 10, 1938 ) was a Belarusian writer and literary critic .
Life
Adam Babareka was born on October 14, 1899 in the Belarusian village of Sloboda-Kučinka as the son of a farming family. He studied at the Slučkoj University and in 1918 attended the theological seminary in Minsk .
During the Polish occupation he was a member of the Belarusian resistance and was captured and tortured by Polish authorities in 1920.
After the occupation of Belarus by Soviet troops, Babareka worked as a teacher.
From 1921 to 1922 he served in the Red Army .
He studied from 1922 to 1927 at the ethnological-linguistic institute of the State University of Belarus and worked on the newspaper Savečkaja Belarus' ( Савецкая Беларусь ) . He was also the co-founder and de facto head of the Belarusian literary associations Maladnjak ( Маладняк ) (1923) and Uzvyšša ( Узвышша ) (1926).
From 1926 to 1929 he taught Belarusian language and literature at the Communist University of Belarus, in 1928 he became an assistant professor of history at the Belarusian Literature BGU.
On June 25, 1930, Babareka was arrested in Minsk.
An NKVD -Gericht sentenced him on 10 October 1931 as a member of a counter-revolutionary organization and anti-Soviet agitation to 5 years exile.
The term of the judgment was later extended by 2 years.
On July 24, 1937, Babareka was arrested again because of the fall of the Union for the Liberation of Belarus ( Саюз вызвалення Беларусі ) . The GPU in the BSSR circulated rumors that various Belarusian scholars and cultural activists had come together in an anti-Soviet organization, the above-mentioned Union for the Liberation of Belarus ( Саюз вызвалення Беларусі ) . Most of the accused were sentenced to death or exile. Janka Kupala was among those convicted . On February 15, 1938, Babareka was sentenced to 10 years in a prison camp in Kirov .
He died on October 10, 1938 in the infirmary there.
Babareka was married and had 2 daughters.
