Adam Jacob Coon (born November 14, 1994 ) is an American wrestler . In 2018 he became vice world champion in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 130 kg body weight.

Career

Adam Coon began wrestling at the age of four under the tutelage of his father, Dan Coon, who later became his high school coach. He attended high school in his hometown of Fowlerville, Michigan and joined the wrestling club there. In high school he practiced both styles, Greco-Roman and freestyle.

Adam Coon grew up to be a downright heavyweight who weighs about 130 kg with a height of 1.94 meters. After high school, he attended the University of Michigan. His trainer there is Joe Mc Farland. He is now a member of the "Cliff-Keen" wrestling club Ann Arbor and the Now York Athletic Club. He still lives in Fowlerville.

In addition to wrestling, Adam Coon is also very successful as an American football player (player).

Adam Coon celebrated his first notable successes in 2011 when he became the American junior champion in free style and in Greco-Roman style in the Cadets age group. He then represented the US colors at the Junior World Championship (Cadets) 2011 in Szombathely. In free style he was there in the weight class up to 100 kg junior world champion before Geno Petriaschwili from Georgia. He started in Szombathely in the Greco-Roman style, but retired after a defeat in the 1st round against Tamas Soos from Slovakia and only came in 11th place.

In 2014 Adam Coon represented the US colors again in both styles at the Junior World Championships (Juniors) in Zagreb. In the weight class up to 120 kg, he won a bronze medal in both styles.

From 2015 to 2017 Adam Coon hardly appeared on the international wrestling mat. In 2016 he made the jump to the US Olympic Trials in Greco-Roman style, but lost the decisive fight against Robert Smith.

In 2018 he finished second behind Kyle Snyder at the NCAA Free Style Championships in the 125kg weight class . He also came in second behind Robert Smith at this year's USA championship in the Greco-Roman style. But he won the US elimination (Trials) for the World Championship in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 130 kg before Robert Smith.

At the 2018 World Championships in Budapest, Adam Coon achieved the greatest success of his career so far in the Greco-Roman style in the weight class up to 130 kg body weight. He defeated Rafael Krajewski, Poland, Meng Lingzhe, China and Eduard Popp from Germany in Budapest , but found no attitude towards the fight in the final against Sergei Semjonow from Russia and lost 9 points after a short fight. He became vice world champion.

In April 2019 Adam Coon became Pan-American Master in the Greco-Roman style in a superior style in Buenos Aires. At the Pan American Games, which took place in lima in August 2019, he lost in the quarter-finals against Yasmani Acosta Fernandez from Chile. Since this did not reach the final, Adam Coon was eliminated and only finished 8th. Even at the World Cup a month later in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), the end came for him after qualifying, in which he lost to Meng Lingzhe from China.

In March 2020 he started again in the weight class up to 130 kg body weight at the Pan American Games in Ottawa. He won there over Yasmani Acosta Fernandez and against Moises Salvador Perez Hellburg from Venezuela, but lost in the final against Angel Ernesto Pacheco Romero from Cuba.
