Adansonia perrieri is a species of baobab trees ( Adansonia ) in the mallow family (Malvaceae). It is similar to Adansonia digitata , but has upright, yellow flowers .

Vegetative characteristics

Adansonia perrieri are medium-sized to large, massive, 20 to 25 meters (rarely 30 meters) high deciduous trees with pale gray smooth bark . Fully grown leaves are palmately divided with 5 to 9 partial leaves and sit on petioles up to 13 centimeters long . The felty leaf blade is obovate-spatula, 8 to 12 inches long and 3 to 4.5 inches wide. The leaf margin is entire.

Inflorescences and flowers

The individual flowers are upright. Their sepals are 15 inches long and 1 to 1.5 inches wide. The yellow, narrow, egg-shaped corolla is 17 inches long and 3 to 4.5 inches wide. The numerous stamens are fused to form a tube up to 12 centimeters long with 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters long free tips.

The flowering period extends from November to December.

The elongated fruits ripen in October and November are up to 16 to 22 centimeters long and 8 to 14 centimeters wide. They contain kidney-shaped, laterally flattened seeds .

Adansonia perrieri is endemic to the northern tip of Madagascar . Few populations are known.
