Adansonia sect. Longitubae is a section from the baobab tree ( Adansonia ) in the Mallow family (Malvaceae).

description

The species belonging to the Longitubae section are small to large deciduous trees with huge cylindrical, conical or bottle-shaped trunks and rounded or irregular crowns .

The stretched-cylindrical flower buds are green and at least five times longer than they are wide. The flowers sit on short, upright pedicels . The white, yellow or red petals are constricted obverse lanceolate to constricted lanceolate and at least five times longer than broad. The androeceum is white or pale yellow. The staminal tube is about 10 to 25 centimeters long, has a diameter of 1 to 1.5 centimeters and contains 100 to 350, 2 to 12 centimeters long, usually free stamens . Sometimes a central bundle of 10 to 20 stamens is fused together over about half the length.

The flowers appear during the rainy season .

The fruits are spherical to egg-shaped and have sparse to dense, reddish-brown to grayish hairs. The thickness of the pericarp varies. The kidney-shaped, flattened seeds are usually 14 millimeters long. The germination takes place phanerokotylar .
