Addernhausen is a district of Schortens in the Friesland district in Lower Saxony .

history

Addernhausen was first mentioned in a document in 1587 and has only developed slowly. It was not actually a farming village because there was no marshland. The village lies on a tongue of geest .

It was only with the advent of artificial fertilizers at the beginning of the 20th century that agriculture became more effective and new farmhouses were built. Many employees of the Wilhelmshaven shipyard were building houses in Oestringfelde near Addernhausen.
