Schoost is a district of Schortens in the Friesland district in Lower Saxony .

location

Schoost is located in Jeverland on the East Frisian peninsula, on the edge of the marsh . How Accum it is on an incoming projecting into the march Geest tongue of the Oldenburg-East Frisian Geest, between which it formerly extensive moors - and heathlands was.

history

Schoost is an old Esch settlement and was first mentioned in 1124 in a confirmation document as the property of the Rastede monastery under the name Scohorst . The name comes from the Frisian sco for forest and horst for flood-free hilltop in the marshland .

In 1587 there were eight farms here. In 1886 the road from Dose to Schoost to Schortens was built and the land consolidation gave Schoost its current character.

In 1999 the smallest district of Schortens celebrated its 875th birthday.
