Heidmühle ( Low German: Heidmöhln ) is a district of Schortens in the Friesland district in Lower Saxony . Together with Schortens, Oestringfelde and Ostiem, Heidmühle forms the center of the town with just under 14,000 inhabitants.
location
Heidmühle is located in Jeverland on the East Frisian peninsula, on the edge of the marsh . Numerous villages, such as the neighboring districts Accum and Schoost are to enter projects into the march Geest tongues , between which it formerly extensive moors - and heathlands was.
history
Heidmühle got its name from the Heidemühle , a post mill , which was moved there from Upjever in 1561 . After the construction of the railway line, many shipyard workers from Wilhelmshaven also settled here, and Heidmühle gradually developed into the town center. The first school was built in 1910, and in the 1930s it became today's town hall. Today around 8500 people live in the Heidmühle district. The eponymous mill was demolished in 1913 and sold to Apen .
On December 6, 2011, the city was officially awarded the title “State Recognized Resort” for the districts of Schortens, Heidmühle, Ostiem, Oestringfelde and Grafschaft.
