Live and act

Adelheid was the daughter of Heinrich von Bortfeld from the Lower Saxon noble family von Bortfeld . Her mother's name was Elisabeth and she was born from Saldern . It is documented that in 1451 she belonged to the Augustinian Choir Women's Monastery in Heiningen , where she campaigned for the provost Berthold Ziegenmeier (also Segenmeyer or Semeyer) to carry out a monastery reform based on the model of the Windesheim monastery . From 1454 to 1477 she was installed there as prioress. Her successor was Adelheid Müller in 1478, who held the office until 1480.

A valuable hunting or coat of arms carpet that was given to her by her parents and was probably made for their wedding shows, in addition to hunting and mermaid scenes, the coats of arms of her parents' families as well as those of the houses in Steinberg and von Haus . This carpet is in the collection of the St. Marienberg Monastery in Helmstedt and is dated to 1430.
