Nicola De Maria

Nicola De Maria (born December 6, 1954 in Foglianise ) is an Italian painter .

De Maria was born in Foglianise in Campania in 1954 and grew up in Turin in Piedmont . At first he studied medicine and specialized in psychiatry , but did not practice. As an artist, Nicola de Maria is self-taught . In the middle of the 70s he made pencil and pastel drawings, as well as watercolor paintings on writing paper and later canvas paintings. The first mural was created in 1977. Works by him can be seen at the Dante station in the Metropolitana di Napoli .

Nicola de Maria is a painter of the Italian transavant-garde . The term transavantgarde was coined by the art historian Achille Bonito Oliva . In contrast to Sandro Chia , Francesco Clemente , Enzo Cucchi , Mimmo Paladino and Carlo Maria Mariani , he works abstractly. De Maria lives and works in Turin.
