Adelheid von Sybel

Adelheid Petersen von Sybel (born October 6, 1878 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † May 3, 1966 in Darmstadt ) was a German writer and anthroposophist .

Life

Adelheid von Sybel was the daughter of the influential Prussian ministerial official and economic politician Alexander von Sybel (1823–1902) and spent her childhood in Freiburg, Heidelberg and Karlsruhe . In Karlsruhe she met the young personal dragon Alexander von Bernus , whom she married in 1902. In the same year he opened a literary salon in Schwabing . Here close friendships arose with Thomas Mann , Rainer Maria Rilke and other artists and intellectuals. On November 21, 1903, their son Alexander Walter ("Alwar") was born, who died in an accident at the age of eleven. In 1908 her husband inherited the former Neuburg Abbey near Heidelberg. Her first marriage ended in divorce that same year.

In October 1911 she married the composer Wilhelm Petersen .

In 1913 she met Rudolf Steiner after a public lecture in Munich . She and her husband became members of the Anthroposophical Society . Since 1918 her husband worked as a music teacher and also as a writer for the magazine Das Reich , which was published by her ex-husband from 1914 to 1921. In 1918 Adelheid von Sybel took part in an exhibition of the anthroposophical artist group Aenigma with 15 paintings .

In 1923 they moved to Darmstadt . There she founded and directed the Christophorus branch of the Anthroposophical Society. In 1934 they moved to Mannheim, 1945 to Heidelberg and 1953 again to Darmstadt. A talented poet herself, her special devotion was to the work of Albert Steffen .
