It is located in Gernrode's old town at Marktstrasse 7, not far from Gernrode Town Hall and is listed as a pharmacy in the local register of monuments.

Architecture and history

The two-story plastered building was built in 1889 on a sandstone base . The house number at that time was still number 54 and was later changed to number 7. The building is simply designed, the facade is symmetrically structured. A flight of stairs leads to the house entrance . In front of the western half of the house is the house sign , an eagle with outspread wings.

The building owner was the Ballenstedt court pharmacist Julius Meyer. One of Meyer's uncle was the Gernröder match maker Emil Paeßler. With the new building, the previous pharmacy, which had existed since 1691, lost its foundation. A wall ran in an arch on the east side of the property, separating the area from the Scheelichenbach, which ran here until 1930 . There were also stables on this side. In 1896 Heinrich Oetken took over the management of the pharmacy, who also lived in the house and bought it. The name Adler pharmacy goes back to Oetken. In 1940 Oetken leased the pharmacy to Gottfried Ullrich for ten years. During the GDR era , the pharmacy was nationalized and managed by Gerhard Lemmler. Lemmler retired in 1976 and was replaced by Heinz Gröhl. In February 1995 the new, modern Cyriakus pharmacy was opened a little further to the east at Marktstrasse 2. The Adler pharmacy then closed, and the Gröhl couple also moved out of their apartment in the house. The Adler pharmacy has been empty since then (as of 2014).

In the yard of the property there is one in the framework construction built barn from the 19th century.
