Adolf Aigner was born on December 11, 1938 in Vienna and worked as an employee at the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF). During the tenure of ORF general manager Otto Oberhammer (1974 to 1978), Aigner appeared as Oberhammer's direct assistant and was temporarily nicknamed Unterhammer in the media, referring to his position . Aigner was politically active from an early age. In 1956 he joined the Association of Socialist Students in Austria , or VSStÖ for short, and was a member there until 1965. From 1957 to 1961 he was also federal chairman of the Association of Socialist Middle School Students . In 1969 he was district education chairman of the SPÖ Favoriten . Aigner, who in 1976 was chairman of the parliamentary group of socialist trade unionists on ORF, was a member of the Vienna municipal council and state parliament from February 28, 1977 to June 19, 1995. He was thus a member of the state parliament and a member of the municipal council for a period of five electoral terms ( 11th to 15th electoral term ). Further functions in all the years of his membership in the state parliament and municipal council were, among other things, as deputy chairman of the Vienna State Education Committee in 1978 or as chairman of the cultural association Favoriten in 1980. From November 7, 1994 to March 17, 1995, he resigned from the 10th district of Vienna Aigner from Favoriten appears as the sixth chairman of the Vienna City Council, after which he was the fifth chairman of the City Council from March 17, 1995 to June 19, 1995. Until the early 2000s , Aigner appeared as a cultural spokesman for the SPÖ. At the beginning of the 2000s, together with two other members of the SPÖ, Anton Gaál, Member of the National Council and Helmut Braun , the former City Councilor for the Environment , he was suspected of having misused housing subsidies. On his big birthdays, the business graduate always received personal congratulations from the then Federal President Heinz Fischer , who praised him for his great dedication to the federal capital. The two of the same age Fischer and Aigner have known each other since their youth. Over the years, both of them stood up for each other again and again, as evidenced by the non-partisan initiative Together for Heinz Fischer from 2004, of which Aigner was a member at the time.
