Helmut Braun (politician)

Helmut Braun (born March 28, 1934 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) at rest. Braun was a member of the National Council and executive city ​​council in Vienna.

Life

Braun attended elementary and secondary school and then learned the trade of wholesaler. He was employed by WIPIAG from 1948 to 1953 and from 1953 was a full-time employee of the private employees' union. He was initially head of the youth department, later secretary in the central secretariat, from 1970 central secretary and from 1974 deputy managing director.

Braun was a member of the Socialist Youth from 1949 and joined the SPÖ in 1952. On October 8, 1978 he was sworn in in the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, of which he was a member until January 26, 1979. He then moved to the National Council, where he represented the SPÖ from January 23, 1979 to September 6, 1984. On September 10, 1984, Braun replaced Peter Schieder as the city councilor responsible for the environment and civil service. He was initially a member of the Zilk I state government and took over the areas of environment, leisure and sport in the Zilk II state government . Braun resigned from his position at the end of January 1988 in the course of an expense affair.

Braun was a member of the listeners 'and viewers' representatives of the ORF, chairman of the socialist parliamentary group of the Austrian Chamber of Labor and a member of the Vienna executive board of the SPÖ.
