Adolf Alter (1905)

Adolf Alter (born October 5, 1876 in Lampoldshausen ; † January 6, 1933 in Heilbronn ) was the mayor of Böckingen from 1903 until his death or the end of independence in 1933 .

biography

In July 1903, Adolf Alter became the administrator of the mayor's office in Böckingen, after criminal proceedings that were later discontinued had been opened against the previous mayor, Karl Rein . Rein resigned from the office for health reasons in December 1903, while the proceedings were still ongoing. On September 9, 1904, Alter was confirmed in office with 637 of 671 votes cast. Alter was chosen for life and exercised the mayor's office until his death on January 6, 1933, from 1929 as the town's mayor .

He made important decisions in times of need, such as during the First World War or during inflation, but also in economically prosperous years. His negotiating skills enabled him to receive grants from the city of Heilbronn and the state government for large building projects that the Böckingen workers' community could not have carried out without outside help. He had the avenue school built and the Weststrasse school expanded, the Böckinger cemetery laid out and the local sewer system and electrical street lighting installed. Moreover Böckingen received the during his tenure in 1919 city charter was 1925/1926, the peace road school into the town hall and in 1929 the Böckinger water tower built. In 1929 the mayor, who was also involved in many associations and institutions, received the honorary citizenship of Böckingen in recognition of his work for the Böckingen community. Nobody followed him to the chair of a Böckinger mayor, because when he died in January 1933, the incorporation of Böckingen into Heilbronn , which took place in June 1933, was already apparent.

He had been married to Helene Reuss since 1908, who died two days after him at the age of 46.

Adolf Alter was buried in the Böckinger Friedhof , and his tomb has been preserved to this day. Adolf-Alter-Strasse in Böckingen has been named after him since 1929 .
