The cemetery in Heidelberger Straße 60 in Heilbronn district Böckingen was created in 1905 and now stands as a cultural monument under monument protection .

history

After the construction of the Heilbronn marshalling yard , burials in the old cemetery near the Pankratius Church were often affected by shunting noise, and the cemetery fell into a “chaotic state”. To solve this problem, a new cemetery was laid out on Heidelberger Strasse in 1905 on a hill on what was then the northern edge of the village, in which the Böckinger cemetery chapel was built as an eclectic sacred building according to plans by Karl Tscherning .

Several fields in the cemetery are occupied by soldiers' graves from both World Wars, and civilian victims were also buried in the war grave fields from World War II.

From 1966, there was a lack of space in the Böckinger Friedhof as well as in the Klingenberg Friedhof. That is why the Westfriedhof between Klingenberg and Böckingen in Gewann Neipperger Weg was laid out in 1978 for both districts of Heilbronn . At present, however, burials are still taking place in existing family graves or reserved urn graves in the Böckinger Friedhof. Some grave fields of the Böckinger Friedhof have already been leveled in a park-like manner, with graves of important families or those of high artistic value being preserved.

Some of the tombs bear the signet of August Häußer , who worked as a design artist for the Peter Bruckmann & Söhne silverware factory and in Art Nouveau . Significant graves include those of the Schuchmann brewery family from 1906, the doctor Naser from 1908 and the building contractor August Mogler from 1910. Significant people buried in the cemetery are, along with numerous other local dignitaries, the Böckinger mayor Adolf Alter (1876–1933) and the artist Walter Maisak (1912-2002).
