Adolf Ansorg (born April 11, 1901 in Henneberg ; † 1978 ) was a German archivist and local history researcher .

Life

Adolf Ansorg's father was the farmer Reinhold Boxberger (1858–1930) and his mother was the domestic worker Marie Ansorg (1865–1931), who gave birth to him in Henneberg. After attending primary school, he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. He soon joined the Labor Party, for which he moved to the local council as a representative in 1925. In 1933 he had to resign after the National Socialists came to power and was placed under police supervision.

As a soldier he took part in World War II and was taken prisoner of war. After his return he worked for the district leadership of the SED in Meiningen . He was one of the founders of Urania in the Suhl district and was a member of the German Cultural Association , the Society for German-Soviet Friendship and other mass organizations.

In 1954, Adolf Ansorg switched to archiving. On May 1, 1961 - at the age of 60 - the “ Franz Mehring ” technical school for archiving in Potsdam awarded him the title of state-certified archivist . As such, he helped train archives in the GDR district of Suhl. To this end, he founded his own activity in the Meiningen district , which dealt with fundamental questions relating to archiving. The aim was to develop the Meiningen district archive into the largest municipal archive in southern Thuringia. In 1969 Ansorg also took over the Meiningen city archive.

Adolf Ansorg was particularly interested in the evaluation of the sources on the history of the labor movement in the town and country of Meiningen. He presented his research results to the public in numerous lectures. In addition, he wrote a number of local history articles and stories for the regional daily press.

For over a decade he worked on writing a chronicle of Meiningen and other places in the district. His late work was the publication of the two-volume inventory overview of the Meiningen district archive, which he directed.

When he reached his 75th birthday, Adolf Ansorg resigned from the management of the Meiningen district archive, but remained connected to the archive.

Act

Adolf Ansorg was assessed by the advisor for archives of the Suhl District Council as follows:

“Through his restless commitment to the great cause of socialism, Comrade Ansorg has played an outstanding role in the patriotic education of the youth and in raising the awareness of the working people. He developed the district archive into an educational and research facility that has become known and effective beyond the Meiningen district. "
