Adolf "Adi" Bauer (born May 26, 1945 in Würzburg ) is a German politician . He was Episcopal Finance Director of the Diocese of Würzburg for 31 years and has been a member of the Würzburg City Council since 1984 . He is a member of the CSU city ​​council and was honorary second mayor of the city of Würzburg from 1996 to 2020 .

Life and education

Adolf Bauer attended the boarding school of the Augustinian monastery in Würzburg. After graduating from the Wirsberg High School , he studied social and economic sciences at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg and at the University of World Trade in Vienna. In 1973 he was at this university a doctorate in social sciences and economics doctorate .

Episcopal Finance Director

From 1973 onwards, Bauer was responsible for special tasks in the Episcopal Ordinariate in Würzburg, such as setting up the EDP or planning the household. In January 1979, Bishop Josef Stangl appointed him financial director of the diocese. He was responsible for financial and property issues in the diocese of Würzburg. Bauer remained in this office for almost 31 years and was retired in May 2010 due to age reasons.

SBW affair

In the course of an affair involving the diocese-owned construction company SBW Bauträger- und Verwaltungs-GmbH ( SBW for short ) in summer 2018, Bauer was dismissed as a member of the supervisory board of this church building company. He then resigned as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Vinzenz Schreinerei und Buchbinderei GmbH and as a member of the investment committee of the Episcopal Chamber of Finance. The diocese had declared the SBW decisions to want to dissolve "entanglements", since they would not meet "today's ideas of compliance and control". According to a report in the Mainpost "Bauer attacked the diocese leadership" and announced that he had "no feelings of guilt". After a complaint about the SBW processes by the vicar general, the public prosecutor investigated and carried out house searches .

City councilor and mayor of Würzburg

Bauer has been a member of the Würzburg city council for the CSU parliamentary group since 1984 and was honorary mayor of Würzburg from 1996 to 2020. In his political work he is a member of the council of elders and the regional planning association of Würzburg. From October 7, 2013 to March 31, 2014, he temporarily assumed the office of Lord Mayor. On May 5, 2014, he was elected second mayor for a further six years in the constituent session of the newly elected city council.
