Adolf Bernhard von Merveldt (born August 26, 1657 - † February 5, 1737 ) was canon in Münster and assessor of the Landpfennigkammer .

Life

Origin and family

Adolf Bernhard von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel grew up as the son of Dietrich Hermann II von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel and his wife Hedwig Anna Sophia von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1657–1737) together with his siblings Dietrich Burchard , Goswin Hermann , Hedwig Anna (1650–1698, ∞ with Dietrich Ludolph von Galen) and Anna Margaretha Maria (1655–1729, canons in Nottuln Abbey ) in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Merveldt .

Career and work

With the receipt of the tonsure on May 19, 1674, Adolf Bernhard was prepared for a spiritual life. He studied in Rome from 1675 to 1679 . By Turnar he received in 1683 Dompräbende in Munster . On July 24, 1697 he was appointed assessor of the Landpfennigkammer. Adolf Bernhard owned the obediences Leppering and Averbeck. On June 6, 1702 he became archdeacon in Stadtlohn. In 1718 and 1719 he applied unsuccessfully for the position of coadjutor of Prince-Bishop Franz Arnold . On September 15, 1724 he received the archdeaconate Albersloh with the associated cathedral choir. After an unsuccessful bid for the post of Provost at Münster, he became provost in Xanten . He stayed here until he resigned this office and handed it over to his nephew Maximilian Heinrich Burchard. Adolf Bernhard is buried in Münster Cathedral.
