Goswin Hermann Otto von Merveldt (* September 5, 1661 (or May 18, 1662 or May 5, 1661), † November 8, 1727 (or May 8, 1727)) was Grand Prior of the German Order of Malta from 1721 to 1727 .

Merveldt came from the Westphalian noble family of Merveldt ( Westerwinkel line ), which was named after the place Merfeld near Dülmen ( Coesfeld district , North Rhine-Westphalia). He was born on September 5, 1661 (or May 5, 1661 or May 18, 1662) as the son of Dietrich Hermann II von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel and Hedwig Anna Sophia von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1631–1671). His siblings were Dietrich Burchard (Obristhofmarschall), Adolf Bernhard (assessor of the Landespfennigkammer ), Hedwig Anna (1650–1698, ∞ Dietrich Ludolph von Galen ) and Anna Margaretha Maria (1655–1729, canons in Nottuln Abbey ).

On July 12, 1685 he was accepted into the Order of Malta. In 1688 he was named as the commander of the life guard of the Prince-Bishop of Münster, Friedrich Christian von Plettenberg . Lieutenant von Jülich was also a station in his career. Active in 1692 at the Kommende Arnheim and Nijmegen , later in Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Tobel .

From 1711 to 1717 he held the office of Grand Bailli of the Order of Malta. He tried in the negotiations for the Treaty of Utrecht in vain (1713), revenue collected by the Netherlands Order of coming to regain for the Order. From 1717 to 1721 he was the (titular) prior of Dacien.

On November 6, 1721, Merveldt was appointed Grand Prior of the Order of Malta for the German province by the then Grand Master Marc'Antonio Zondadari . In addition, he received the five prioral coming (or chambers) Utrecht, Cologne, Heimbach, Bubikon and Freiburg i. Br.

He lived partly on the Drostenhof in Wolbeck . Merveldt used his position on family policy and achieved that Merveldt was elevated to the rank of imperial count in 1726.

In 1726 Merveldt had the bath house renovated in Heitersheim; there is also his coat of arms. He also had stables and farm buildings built on the Weinstetten estate in 1727 .

Merveldt died on November 8, 1727 (or May 8, 1727) on the Westerwinkel family estate and was buried in the St. Nicholas Church in Wolbeck , where an epitaph commemorates him. Merveldt had the burial chapel added to the church, which still serves as a burial place for the von Merveldt family today.
