Origin and family

Dietrich Hermann II von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel grew up as the son of Dietrich Hermann I von Merveldt zu Westerwinkel (1598–1658, Chancellor, Privy Councilor and Chamberlain) and his wife Gertrud von Ketteler zu Sythen (1600–1630) together with his brother Adolf Dietrich (1623–1639, Canon in Paderborn) and his half-sisters Clara Sibylla and Maria Ursula in the ancient Westphalian noble family von Merveldt . He married on February 10, 1649 Hedwig Anna Sophia von Westerholt zu Lembeck (1631–1671, heiress of Lake, Alst and Haselünne). She was the daughter of Bernhard von Westerholt zu Hackfort . From the marriage the sons Goswin Hermann Otto , Dietrich Burchard and the daughter Hedwig Anna (1650–1698, ∞ Dietrich Ludolph von Galen ) emerged. After Hedwig's death, Burchard Alexander married Ida Margaretha von Harstell zu Mihla (* 1653) on June 13, 1672.

Career and work

In 1637 Dietrich Hermann received a Dompräbende from the Turnar in Minden and seven years later also in Osnabrück through papal approval . This was followed by a law degree at the University of Cologne . In 1649 he renounced the two prebends because of the takeover of the original property. In 1658 he was appointed as the successor of his father to the official resignation in Wolbeck. He is buried in the collegiate church in Wolbeck, where there is an epitaph.
