Adolf Fischer (born July 17, 1807 in Reinach AG ; † April 7, 1893 in Aarau ) was a Swiss politician and officer.

biography

Adolf Fischer was born on July 17, 1807 as the son of the factory owner and Grand Councilor Samuel Fischer in Reinach. He attended high schools in Zurich and Aarau and then completed a commercial training in Geneva . He also took two semesters of law studies and camera studies in Heidelberg . From 1828 Fischer worked in his father's spinning mills , but he was mainly involved in public offices. From 1831 to 1850 he acted as a district judge , 1842 to 1850 as president , and from 1841 to 1842 as chief judge. He was also represented on the Board of Directors of Centralbahn from 1869 to 1885 and on the Board of Directors of the Gotthard Railway Company from 1880 to 1887 . Fischer was an avowed opponent of the national railway . In the military field, he was appointed chief of staff of the artillery in 1847. In addition, he worked from 1849 to 1860 as a colonel and as a federal artillery inspector.

Adolf Fischer, who married Adele, daughter of the field doctor Ferdinand Stäbli, died on April 7, 1893 at the age of 85 in Aarau.

Political career

From 1833 to 1867 Fischer was a member of the Aargau Grand Council, of which 1842 and 1846 as President. In addition, he served as President of the Constitutional Council in 1851 and from 1867 to 1887 as Government Councilor responsible for the military , home affairs and finance . In the first parliamentary elections in 1848, Fischer was elected to the National Council. As a moderately liberal member of parliament, he was a member first until 1854, then from 1855 to 1857 and finally from 1861 to 1869. Fischer was considered an influential councilor.
