Adolf Gurnik (born August 29, 1844 in Guschau in the Sorau district , † August 29, 1903 in Frankfurt (Oder) ) was a German archivist and author. He was the first director of the city archive in Frankfurt (Oder).

Adolf Gurnik, the son of the royal forester Johann Gurnik in Guschau, came to the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Cottbus in October 1856 , where he graduated from high school in 1863. He then studied philosophy and history at the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin. a. with Johann Gustav Droysen and Theodor Mommsen . In November 1867, Gurnik passed his examination for teaching at secondary schools.

In 1868 Gurnik came from Hirschberg to Frankfurt (Oder). Here he taught history, geography and German at the secondary school. In 1873 he received his doctorate at the University of Rostock Dr. phil. with the dissertation "De Andocide orationis contra Alcibiadem auctore".

Since at least 1872 Adolf Gurnik has also been involved in the historical association for local history of Frankfurt. In 1891 he was given the management of the city archive. Since 1897 he was a member of the board of directors of the historical association and eventually became its chairman. In 1899 Gurnik was appointed professor.

Adolf Gurnik died of cancer on his 59th birthday in hospital.
