Adolf Hauffen
Adolf Hauffen (born November 30, 1863 in Laibach , Austria-Hungary , † February 4, 1930 in Prague ) was a German-Bohemian literary historian, writer, professor of German folklore, language and literature at the Karl Ferdinand University in Prague.
Adolf Hauffen studied German, English, history and geography in Vienna, Leipzig and Berlin from 1883 and received his doctorate in philosophy in Graz in 1886 and habilitated at the German University of Prague in 1889, where he became associate professor of German language and literature in 1898 and full professor in 1919 , as well as folklore. Since 1902 he has also been a lecturer at the German Technical University in Prague , promoter of adult education, founder of scientifically based folklore in Bohemia and collector of traditions and folk songs. After 1919 he extended his areas of interest to Moravia, Silesia and the Carpathian countries.
Through his German studies a. a. he made important contributions to Johann Fischart in the field of folklore in Bohemia. His folklore study of the Gottscheers' German language island is still considered a standard work today.
Among his students was u. a. Josef Blau .
