Adolf Heinrich Schletter (born January 8, 1793 in Leipzig , † December 19, 1853 in Paris ) was a silk merchant , consul and benefactor in Leipzig.
From 1814 to 1849, Schletter headed the company that had been taken over by his father Salomon Gotthold Schletter and specialized in trading in French silk goods. He bequeathed his extensive art collection, which included 80 paintings and 17 small sculptures, and a house in Petersstrasse to the city of Leipzig in his will. This happened on the condition that a museum should be built for this collection within five years. The Museum of Fine Arts was opened on December 18, 1858, the day before the five-year anniversary of his death . A square and a street in Leipzig were named after him in honor of Adolf Heinrich Schletter. In 2011, Schletterplatz in the Mitte district, Zentrum-Süd district, was renamed Gaudigplatz .
