Adolf Hoffmann (born March 28, 1822 in Bitse , Kingdom of Hungary , Austrian Empire , † November 20, 1909 in Vienna ) was an Austrian doctor .
Life
The from the Hungarian Bitse at the Waag , today Bytča in Slovakia , born Adolf Hoffmann turned to the filed Matura a study of medicine at the Universities of Vienna and Budapest which he in 1848 with the acquisition of the to, academic degree of Dr. med. completed. In the same year he took up a doctor's position at the Vienna General Hospital , in 1849 he was involved in the fight against cholera in the Semmering hospital , and later he was employed in a private psychiatric clinic.
Adolf Hoffmann settled in Vienna in 1853 as a general practitioner, in 1877 he received the citizenship of the city, in 1884 he was appointed to the board of the Vienna Medical Doctoral College. He worked for the public health service in a variety of ways, including the introduction of non-smoking trams and the mandatory muzzle for dogs on his initiative .
In addition, Hoffmann emerged as a member of the Austrian Numismatic Society, to which he had belonged since 1891, and as a coin collector. He owned one of the largest private coin collections of his time of over 200,000 pieces.
