Adolf Layer

Adolf Layer (born July 5, 1920 in Langerringen , † April 3, 1984 in Dillingen an der Donau ) was a German historian , grammar school teacher and university lecturer.

Adolf Layer studied German, history and geography in Munich and Innsbruck between 1938 and 1943. From 1948 to 1972 he worked as a grammar school teacher at the Oberrealschule München-Pasing and at the Albertus grammar school in Lauingen . From 1973 to 1982 he was a lecturer for regional studies and folklore at the University of Augsburg . Layer is the author of numerous national and cultural-historical contributions on the history of Swabia. For example, a large part of the Swabian volume of the multi-volume handbook of Bavarian history goes back to his preparatory work. In 1975 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, among other awards.
