Adolf Schauenstein

Adolf Schauenstein (born December 4, 1827 in Graz , † October 16, 1891 in Graz) was an Austrian coroner .

Life

Adolf Schauenstein studied at the University of Graz . There he received his doctorate in medicine in 1851 . In 1863, Schauenstein became an associate professor for state and forensic pharmacy. In the same year he received a call to the newly established chair for forensic medicine at the University of Graz. In addition to Vienna and Kiel , Graz was the third chair for forensic medicine in German-speaking countries. Schauenstein headed the institute until 1892. From 1868 to 1869 and from 1886 to 1887 he was rector of the re-established university in Graz. Schauenstein made special contributions to forensic toxicology . After 1871 he was chairman of the state health council in Styria .

The gynecologist Walther Schauenstein was his son, the biochemist Erwin Schauenstein his grandson and the pathologist Konrad Schauenstein his great-grandson. Adolf Schauenstein was a member of the Graz academic fraternity Arminia.
